I first went to Vocational Rehabilitation Department(VRD) over eight or 9 years ago. I found that there was no motivation
to help me to be present there. After a few months, I quit going. I was
not tested for anything by VRD. So as I had had an aptitude in the
computer sciences I ran across S.O.F.I.E. The Gears Project. We were
Douglas County's first Internet Service Provider (ISP). I was a full
team member and my title was Systems Administrator. I later consulted
with Wizard’s of the World Wide Web. To troubleshoot problems in their
systems as well as DataWeb. Both are ISP's
About two years ago I
again reapplied after finding myself escaping into the system of DHS
from another failed business venture. To date I have had no less than
six failed business ventures. I always make money but loose my butt to
the technicalities of structure and management. Both of which might as
well be only seen in the infra-red spectrum to my non-infra-red seeing
eyes.
It was at my first meeting with Mary Worthington that I got
the
real picture of VRD/OVRS. Mary was insulting and demanding. She talked
to me as thou I was mentally retarded. Not that I would ever talk to
anyone (no matter what organic impairment there might be) the way she
talks to her clients.
Mary scheduled a meeting with others in the social services arena and
my wife, advocate and myself.
We started the meeting and I started my tape recorder. She was 15
minutes late. I then began to ask her what the purpose of this meeting
was she raised her voice to me and said "WITH AN ATTITUDE LIKE THAT MAX
IT IS NO WONDER YOU CAN'T KEEP A JOB!!!" and stomped out of the meeting.
My advocate, my wife and myself all filed complaints with the Roseburg
branch manager Joe Miller and his soon to be replacement Amy Kincaid.
At the meeting with Joe and Amy, I was asked by Joe if he could borrow
the tape for duplication. The last I saw of the tape was Joe handing it
to Amy. I asked my case manager (CM) about the tape a few days later.
She asked me "what tape?". at that time Amy Kincaid was my CM. Thus we
started the go around about the tape.
Then I was given Brad Haller as CM and he told me that my plan could
cost no more than to .
There were many other let down's like the MEDALS program. Asked 45 days
in advance for a voucher and was approved 3 weeks after the program
closed registration. Stuff like that. Every two weeks a meeting with no
purpose and stalling until after the due date and mumbling about
reimbursement. So I was discouraged and left.
